Project Overview
Quantum Builders was contracted by King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah to execute a comprehensive MEP systems upgrade across terminal facilities. This critical infrastructure project required precision engineering to maintain airport operations while implementing modern systems to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.
Scope of Work
- Complete HVAC system modernization for passenger terminals and operational areas
- Electrical system upgrades including power distribution and lighting
- Fire protection and life safety systems enhancement
- Plumbing and sanitary system improvements
- Building management system (BMS) integration
- Energy efficiency optimization systems
- 24/7 operational support during implementation
Technical Specifications
The project featured advanced HVAC systems designed to handle the high passenger volumes and diverse environmental requirements of an international airport. Our team implemented energy- efficient solutions with intelligent zoning controls to optimize climate management across different terminal areas including check-in halls, departure lounges, baggage handling areas, and administrative offices.
Electrical systems were upgraded with redundancy in mind, featuring uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, backup generators, and advanced lighting controls. The fire protection systems were enhanced to meet the latest international aviation safety standards, with specialized solutions for high-risk areas including fuel storage and aircraft maintenance zones.
Project Challenges & Solutions
The primary challenge involved maintaining full airport operations throughout the upgrade process. Our team implemented phased work schedules, working during off-peak hours and utilizing temporary systems to ensure uninterrupted service. Specialized teams coordinated with airport security and operations personnel to minimize disruption to passengers and airline operations.
Quality Assurance
All installations underwent rigorous testing and commissioning procedures in compliance with International Air Transport Association (IATA) standards and Saudi Civil Aviation Authority regulations. The project was certified under ISO 9001:2015 quality management standards and included comprehensive handover training for airport facility management teams.
